Actualité

In sociology we witness a turn from abstract macro-structural problems toward analysis of everyday life. This thematic turn is joined by new interest in qualitative methods: observation, analysis of documents, content analysis, in-depth interviews. The last but not least is the application of techniques of visual registration, running under the label of visual sociology. The last World Congress of Sociology of the ISA at Durban in 2006 had a theme of "The quality of social existence in the globalizing world". The forthcoming congress of IIS at Budapest in 2008 will have similar focus.
